Effect of Stokes number on erosion on Pelton buckets for sediment-laden flows

This study investigates how sediment particle size and distribution in Pelton turbine jets vary with Stokes number, finding that realistic particle distributions predict greater bucket erosion than the commonly assumed uniform distribution, with implications for managing hydropower systems affected by glacial sediment.

Digital Twin for Vibration Monitoring of Pelton Units

This study develops a digital twin for a 15MW Pelton hydropower unit that combines CFD and finite element simulations with experimental vibration data to model and predict vibrational behaviour during startups, enabling early detection of anomalies such as jet misalignment to support predictive maintenance.
